Assembly Member Don Wagner Hosts Photo Contest

From Assembly Member, Don Wagner’s Email:

Have Your Photo Featured in the Capitol or District Offices

I have bare walls to fill in the new district office and in my capitol office.  Help me fill those walls with photos from around the 68th Assembly District.  In this spirit, I am announcing a photography competition to inspire young and creative minds to share their favorite scenes of the community.

High school and college students in the cities of Irvine, Tustin, Orange, Villa Park, Anaheim Hills, and Lake Forest are invited to enter the competition by sending the best photos that they have taken showing scenic or iconic views of the district.  Submissions must be original and cannot show identifiable people or the names of specific businesses.

The winners of this contest will be invited by me to showcase their photo in my new district office, as well as have their photo featured in the Capitol.  Winners will also be eligable to receive a $50 gift card for 1st place, a $25 gift card for 2nd place, and a $15 gift card for 3rd place.  If you wish to enter, please send your electronic photo to sam.han@asm.ca.gov by May 15th, 2013.  Winners will be selected by May 31st, 2013.

If you have any questions, please call 714.665.6868 to speak with a district representative.

Is Tustin Considering Signing a Contract with Poseidon?

Poseidon Desalination Plant Diagram

Poseidon Desalination Plant Diagram

We have learned that several OC cities are considering a 30 year contract with Poseidon Resources, Inc., a water desalination company that has been planning to build a desalination plant in Huntington Beach for over 10 years. Many of these cities own their own municipal water districts, such as our own Tustin Water Works. If Tustin Water Works signs a deal with Poseidon, ratepayers could pay up to $8,500 per household more per year, whether the water from Poseidon is used or not!

Below are links to news articles about the secrecy and, possibly violations of the Brown Act if Poseidon gets their way.

Also view No Water Deal’s website for more information than you will get from the newspapers.

C R & R Waste Services Linked to PAC’s

C R & R Wast Services was linked to PACs that supported local City Council candidates, according the the Orange County Register’s OC Watchdog.

As we here at Tustin Residents Action Committee (TRAC) suspected, C R & R contributed thousands of dollars to the campaigns of John Nielson, Allan Bernstein, and Charles “Chuck” Pucket.  According to the Register, C R & R gave $7,000 to John Nielson’s campaign, and $2,000 each to Allan Bernstein and Chuck Puckett’s campaigns.

It is important to note that John Nielson voted to extend C R & R’s contract without opening the process up to bidding.  “No matter who donates to my campaign, I always vote in the best interest of Tustin,” said Nielsen. “My only allegiance is to the voters and residents of Tustin.”  TRAC will follow this throughout the next 4 years of their term in office and keep you apprised.
